Before the Trip
To quote Rick Steves, our vacation to Spain began in beautiful Barcelona and ended in sensual Sevilla — with the cultural delights of Madrid, Ronda, and Granada laced together in between.
Let the planning begin!
Why we chose 'My Way'
To be honest, we didn't think we were 'tour people', whatever that might mean. We didn't want to travel around from site to site with a large group and have our destinations be decided for us. But then, without the group tour, we would be responsible for choosing where to stay and what transportation to take between cities. With no previous knowledge, would we make the ‘right’ decisions?
So, the Rick Steves My Way option was exactly what we were looking for on our trip to Spain. It provided the freedom to select our own tourist sites but the comfort of knowing that ‘the where and how to travel around’ were planned for us.
And, by the way, we met such a great group of people! We might be tour people after all!
What we learned from our planning
1. Seriously, they are not kidding--do not take a checked bag--dragging 2 bags all over Spain will not be fun.
2. The group had some great optional plans for us, so leave some time for these opportunities.
3. Check out concerts, sporting events, plays in addition to the tourist attractions. Get those tix in advance.
