Madrid

The AVE brought us to the busy capital city, where we never stopped!  Our days were filled with art and luxury.

Royal Palace of Madrid

The official residence of the King and Queen of Spain at a mere 3,400 plus rooms.  Honestly, we tried to follow the history of the Charles', but struggled because there are too many of them!  We settled on enjoying the architecture and the beauty.

Looking up can get dizzying, but that how you enjoy the ceiling frescos.  As you progress, the rooms have different purposes and become more restricted.  Take pics at the beginning because it is prohibited as you progress.

Museo Del Prado

You guessed it, King Charles III has his hand in the origin of the Prado.  The museum has collections of Francisco de Goya as well as El Greco and Velázquez.
The audio guide would have been helpful.   Trying to read the small signs was sometimes hard.  'One of us' just could enjoy the paintings and 'one of us' wanted to read every word...not telling who was who.

Museo Del Prado

Among the masterpieces, this one surprised us.  This painting was made by a student in Leonardo's studio at precisely the same time he was painting the original.  So, not the original, but so much more accessible.

What Did We Learn?

1.  Metro is a bit trickier in Madrid, but we figured it out, more or less!

2.  Adapt.  We had a tour scheduled for Toledo, but it was cancelled.  We quickly changed to spend another day in Madrid.  There was no point being upset about enjoying one more day in Madrid.

3.  Trust Javi the bike taxi driver.  He took us to places we never would have seen, albeit through ALL the traffic.

**Saffron!  La Melguiza is a quaint little shop with a very knowledgeable staff person.  The shop hours?  More like a suggestion.
